»Spark Sprayers 2018«

»Diverse approaches to biblical stories « was the topic of our Spark Sprayers event in May 2018.

The Talmud contains the idea that seventy sparks arise when a person strikes the text of Scripture. On Friday evening we dealt with what this idea says about the meaning and effect of the Bible and what it unleashes in the artist. We immersed ourselves in the works of Karl Ditt and let them affect us.

The next day a text from the Prophet Isaiah was the focus of attention »And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.«  (Is 58, 11-12)

We took the time to enter into the text with the aid of bibliodramatic elements, allowing the participants to move through the spaces described in the text and to be interviewed within these biblical places by Sylvia Ditt and Rosemarie Monnerjahn. With the help of additional question, these two women guided the participants to a deeper appreciation of what such locations mean, physically and metaphorically, for the understanding of the text in our lives.

Then, deeply moved, we could immerse ourselves during the afternoon in various works of art which Karl created around the text and which he had built up in the Church of St. Vincent Pallotti:
